One thing that I find funny is that people who have no interest in comic books ( which is fine to each their own) think that some of Hollywood's biggest movies just come out of nowhere. People would be surprised to learn that a lot of the movies they enjoy are based off of comic books of graphic novels. The Movie Iron Man for example was, much to my surprise, not thought of by most people to be a comic book movie. There are actually quite a few movies that were fairly popular that were based on characters from comic books. 300 for example was from comics written by Frank Miller. Another more recent one would be Watchmen which was written by Alan Moore. One more good example is Hellboy written by Mike Mignola. Most people who on the outsied of the comic book world have no idea that a lot of the movies they enjoy have roots in comic books. I am usually ecstatic when I hear about a new comic based movie It just makes it all the more exciting for me to see characters jump from the pages of a comic to the big screen.

Aye, that is true to note for the fact that many people do not know the history of what they are watching. There are also people like me that would have loved to buy the comic books only to be told by a parent that it is too "graphic" as a show of censorship and ignorance that a lot of people held against the comic books. Grant it that many where extremely violent/graphic, like Venom for example.
ReplyDeleteThe problem I guess arose was when people heard certain word of mouth of the more violent comics and rumors, these people thought that we would learn that fighting was good and that we would then start picking fights amongst ourselves, not thinking that it could also help fill our imagination. This also goes into the Batman and other Super Hero Cartoons.
This “Censorship” I am lead to believe by my own dealings with it, is why many people do not know of these comics.
