The End is Nigh!

Well I think this will be my last blog, I have somewhat enjoyed the experience of blog writing. I guess the whole idea behind my topic "My Adult Interest in Comics" was to inform readers about a more mature aspect to the comic book world. I hope that at least some of my followers enjoyed reading my blog and were informed by some of the information I provided for them. I think I will close my blog with saying that I can't wait for the Deadpool movie (which has been confirmed) starring Ryan Reynolds.

It's about time!

Finally it looks like there is going to be a spawn movie worth watching (the first one was OK). It has been more than ten years and finally Todd McFarlane (creator of spawn) has found a way to get another movie made, DO IT HIMSELF! According to sources McFarlane is about 80% done with the script. It seems that this time around the script will be darker and more like the actual comic than the last movie. McFarlane said he is trying to find a studio to let him have around a 20 million dollar budget to work with. He said that if he cannot find a studio to back him he would finance the film himself. McFarlane said he will not give up creative control of the project, no matter what.

1 Million Dollars!

Well It finally happened, Action Comics #1 the first appearance of Superman has sold at action for a cool million dollars! It has been said for many years that a comic book would never sell for that much money. On February 22nd 2010 the comic was sold at auction on ComicConnect.com. It is very hard to believe that in 1938 this comic book sold for ten cents. There really isn't much more to say about this except that 1 million dollars was paid for a comic book!

Kick-Ass

Have any of you heard about a new movie releasing on April 6th? It's called Kick-Ass, a movie based on a creator owned comic book. It is written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita Jr. I am looking forward to this movie because it puts a different twist on comic book fans.The movie stars Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (a.k.a McLovin), and Nicolas Cage The story is about a normal teenage boy who decides that he wants to become a superhero. The titular character makes a suit and starts to train himself to be a crime fighter. His first attempts at crime fighting do not go well for Kick-Ass, he gets roughed up pretty bad, but keeps on fighting crime. Lots of action and humor make this one movie I am looking forward to.

Censorship.

I received a comment about censorship of comics from one of my earlier posts. I figured that it would be a good topic to tackle in this one. I do believe that at certain times that parents of young (and not so young children)censor comics that are in my opinion fairly mild. This censorship robs these children of a fantastic and wholesome hobby. Now I know that there are very mature comics out there that kids should not read, but most of those comics are labeled as mature, or sold in specialty shops. I was never censored as a child especially with comic books. I never got my hands on any adult comics when I was younger, but as an adult I have come across some books that children should definitely not read (Most I don't want to even list in this blog). The big three comic publishers , Marvel, DC, and Archie, still adhere to what is called the Comic Code Authority. The Comic Code Authority grades the content of comic books and rates them just like movies do. The point I am trying to make is, if your kids want to read comics check them out first and see if they are acceptable don't just go what others have to say about them.

Thanos is back!

I just found out that another of my favorite characters is coming back to comics, Thanos. Thanos is a cosmic being that has been involved in many of the Marvel Universes cosmic events.Usually he is the cause of the event and sometimes he just ends up getting involved. Thanos is an extremely dangerous and powerful character. Thanos is one of those characters who has cheated death on many occasions always returning to wreak havoc on the comic world. Once again Thanos is back and he is bringing another cosmic event with him. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning are bringing "The Mad Titan" (Thanos' nickname) back for a one shot called The Thanos Imperative: Ignition. I am very much looking foreword to reading this book. The book is due out in may.

Comic Book Movies.

One thing that I find funny is that people who have no interest in comic books ( which is fine to each their own) think that some of Hollywood's biggest movies just come out of nowhere. People would be surprised to learn that a lot of the movies they enjoy are based off of comic books of graphic novels. The Movie Iron Man for example was, much to my surprise, not thought of by most people to be a comic book movie. There are actually quite a few movies that were fairly popular that were based on characters from comic books. 300 for example was from comics written by Frank Miller. Another more recent one would be Watchmen which was written by Alan Moore. One more good example is Hellboy written by Mike Mignola. Most people who on the outsied of the comic book world have no idea that a lot of the movies they enjoy have roots in comic books. I am usually ecstatic when I hear about a new comic based movie It just makes it all the more exciting for me to see characters jump from the pages of a comic to the big screen.
